Reduced Risk Headshot Sessions in Today’s Covid-19 World
If you’re reading this we hope you and those close to you are safe and healthy!
Getting back to “normal” is going to take some time, and in fact some may argue that there will be a new “normal”. Businesses and individuals will need to adapt to create a safe environment for employees and customers with social distancing, masks/gloves, decontamination procedures, etc..
With fewer in person face to face meetings, at least for some time, headshots on your website or LinkedIn profile may be the first impression your provide for potential customers, employees, or partners. You want that first impression to be one that amplifies your brand, projects confidence, approachability, and professionalism.
To continue to create headshots that amplify brands for business and individuals, I’ve created the following approach that reduces exposure risk, adheres to guidelines set forth by medical experts yet delivers studio quality results – you won’t be able to tell the difference and feel more comfortable knowing that you’re outside, where it’s less risky while maintaining social distancing!
Key elements
· All sessions will be held outside/in my garage – this is to maintain maximum airflow, which has proven to be the safest environment. No need to worry about being in the same indoor space with poor air circulation over an extended period of time.
· We will maintain at least 6’ of distance at all times
· I will wear a mask – clients will be requested to wear a mask unless they are in front of the camera
· The same studio lighting, backgrounds, and all other gear will be used
· We’ll still shoot tethered so you can instantly see the results as the session progresses, and I will continue to coach you on how to look your best. Subjects have their own monitor, stationed at least 6’ away from me where they can review their images.
· There will be a changing area along with a place to hang clothes if needed
· This approach is available at my studio or on-location (assuming there is a place where this can be done)
· All sessions are by appointment
· For individual sessions, we can also shoot in a wooded area with natural backgrounds for personal use
· For businesses with multiple employees, we can schedule time either on – location, at my studio, or some combination of the above – contact me to discuss your specific needs
Technical details
For those of you who have dabbled in photography or are curious as to how this is possible, read on.
Photography is mainly about how to utilize and control light – in a studio lighting setup, we utilize our own light sources to control how light falls on a subject to create mood, beauty, etc.. We do this by adjusting the camera settings such that if you were to take an image of the space without these artificial lights, it would be totally dark. Therefore, we can have complete control over how the image looks by light placement, relative power, etc.
Shooting outside/in a garage is not really different – we adjust the camera settings to render the same completely black image without the artificial lights, and then set up the lights/background in the exact same way we would if we were indoors.
How well does this work?
